Valar Morghulis

These brilliant Game of Thrones posters have just been released for Season 4 with the tagline, Valar Morghulis (All men must die). O Daenerys Storm-born, of House Targaryen, stay safe …

(From top) Jack Gleeson as Joffrey Lannister, Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen, Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark, Isaac Hempstead Wright as Bran Stark.

      • It does make me wonder why I’m so enthralled with Game of Thrones when I complain so much about all the cops and robbers stuff on television, with its gratuitous, repetitive violence. The writing, filming and acting are all so good in Game of Thrones, though; and you see the effects of cruelty and violence on the characters. There is loss, sadness, remorse; whereas, the actions of the cops and robbers are so mindless and predictable they are boring. Therein lies the danger, I guess.

      • They are very interesting questions: what makes it so enthralling and why is the violence different?

I like your word cruelty; the violence is shown to arise from cruelty (unlike the cops and robber stuff as you say). And I don’t even want to call it violence. I want to say death and destruction.

I noticed when I was writing the names of the cast members that I didn’t want to. Joffrey and Daenerys and all are real to me.
